...

and get inspired to tap in the travel and get outside your quote unquote comfort known.

...

for our tenth episode today. I cannot believe that I've been doing this ten times

...

I learned more every time for a tenth episode today, I am

...

so excited to introduce you to multi Hyphen, Megan Cain,

...

passionate cello traveler.

...

proud Taiwan Italian business founder of so collection as

...

sustainable resort or a company meant to inspire others to have the same feelings of

...

confidence and empowerment. She got from solo travel. Welcome back again.

...

Thanks, Megan again. I'm so excited to be here.

...

I'm so excited to have you, and I cannot wait to talk about solo travel. We actually

...

had that as a kind of a requested topic at one point so

...

I was really pumped to fuse these two things together and

...

congratulations on your lawn. You just launched have Tuesday.

...

I said. Yeah. Thank you so much. I

...

I'm just so passionate about so traveling and it just making me up.

...

it just makes me so excited that I get to share that with the world. So thank you so much

...

having you hear.

...

Oh, of course. Well, I can't wait to get into it.

...

But before I do, I just wanted to let everybody know that we will be

...

putting up the floor for questions, if you have any

...

solo travel for the last five minutes or so.

...

And then also, if you think that something in your network would enjoy this, I would encourage you

...

you hit that little hamburger button in the last

...

bottom corner and tap the globe. You can share that link on any of your favorite

...

social channel so people continue in live. And like I said, anybody

...

who wants to ask questions will be doing that for the last five minutes. So let's get started.

...

So Megan,

...

solo travel

...

can be a really scary thing. At least for me, it is. I honestly have never officially solo travel

...

Can you share a little bit about your first solo travel experience?

...

good, the bath ugly, and then maybe the experience that inspired you to watch

...

your business.

...

Yes. Thank you. That's that's a great question. Actually,

...

funny guys you say that soul traveling is just kind of a daunting

...

thing because even when I've done it for so many years,

...

it's it's still daunting like that fear doesn't really go away.

...

how else started was I had graduated college back in

...

twenty twenty sixteen, twenty seventeen. So

...

And I had knew I just wanted to go in this big trip to explore the world.

...

I

...

you know, that was, like my first time

...

feeling like an adult of and embarking

...

you know, just my adulthood and

...

I was just super excited to kinda go out him see the world. So I had always envisioned that

...

not be doing this with a big group of girlfriends.

...

Yep.

...

you know, kind like what you see in movies and

...

I

...

everything's about the movie.

...

I no. I have this i big dream that it would be kind of like, you know, this just the of

...

traveling pans, you know, going out to see the world and

...

just talking to some of my friends, what I had realized was

...

that traveling just

...

there is this perception that you needed to have a lot of money, and it was kind of this, like,

...

luxury thing that

...

you, you would do later on in your life and

...

just coming from a family where my dad has always taken me to just

...

related out countries and to explore different cultures at such a early age.

...

that was just something I was hungry for.

...

So I knew I wanted to go somewhere. I was like, I don't know people

...

or females can even solo travel is that safe

...

so I had reached out to a cousin actually

...

who had, like, pretty much backpack across the world and then told me, like,

...

you know, there are definitely female. Solo travelers out there, you can stay on

...

spills and it's a great way to meet people.

...

So that's exactly what I did and talking to my dad at the time.

...

I actually envisioned

...

myself going to, like, Asia or you're thinking,

...

it'd be a little bit safer, and that's kind of the drain, you know, traveling across

...

Europe, and he had actually brought up a

...

really important point to me that when you're young and you've kind of got this

...

livelihood good in you.

...

you know, you don't always get that, you know, maybe later on in your life and it's great to take advantage

...

and explores some of the more off being pies

...

So that's exactly what I did. I

...

decided to take two months to go back talking across South America.

...

So I started in both,

...

And by the end of the trip, I ended up in Buenos r Argentina,

...

And

...

you know, so about, you know, when people look at me, they don't really

...

think of a backpack. I don't really think of myself.

...

two

...

but it was just such an amazing. Honestly, it's just such an amazing

...

spear, and I had kind of looked up a couple places that

...

I wanted to go to and then really just left it up

...

or opportunity to, like, really make

...

friendship and make connections with the people I need and

...

I just have so many stories of, you know, the

...

experiences that I got by doing that.

...

it really brings such a deliberate liberating feeling when you just

...

put yourself out there. Really to just observe

...

all the beauty that's around you make connections

...

just some of the most unexpected ways and

...

just that feeling that, like, joy feeling would just constantly, like,

...

my heart up every time I would solo travel and

...

I just felt like that was a gift that I needed to share with the world.

...

so I really wanted to do that through my brand and through the collections, inspiring people

...

to be connected to one another through travel. And

...

invoking that b that I felt through traveling.

...

Wow.

...

I you know, I guess in a sense, I I technically have fellow travel

...

i study, I again, had the privilege because, you know, not

...

everybody does get this privilege to study abroad, but

...

Mhmm.

...

we were with, you know, a bunch of people and so listening to your experience. I mean,

...

my brain, and this is just showing how naive and

...

how much I I still have to learn.

...

Mhmm.

...

But when you say you're in South America by yourself, I I'm, like,

...

Wow. But that sounds terrifying to me, Like,

...

Was there any point, like, where ...I guess,

...

could you just share, you know, and then we'll get into your new brand a little bit. But

...

Could you share, like, if you're comfortable

...

was there any time where you felt

...

scared or threatened and then, like, what happened or what did you learn and

...

Mhmm. No. That's a great question. And, honestly, when I had first

...

travel to South America.

...

I still didn't

...

I didn't really mean, like, any Americans there. I think it was just starting to economist

...

place that was a little bit

...

starting to be a little bit more accepted

...

to tourism, but still, like,

...

I didn't ...it it's not like, you know, going to Italy and, you know, meeting

...

hundreds and

...

solo travelers and especially you from

...

where I came from, so was still kind of this unknown thing when I did it.

...

couple years ago.

...

And, honestly, I was. I was so frightened. I had

...

I had gone to the bookstore, you know, right before my

...

trip and pretty much read like Evo trap. Every travel guide on

...

how to he save how to get how take taxis from, like, one city or a

...

other and anything, you know,

...

wherever you're going, there's going to be safety precautions, you know,

...

even if you're in a place like Europe, you know, there's gonna be pig pocket. So

...

I think, like,

...

doesn't really matter where you are as there's

...

are they are gonna be some safety concerns.

...

but I would say once I had gone to the city, like,

...

you know, any ...so I had stayed in hospitals the entire time and

...

that's where I we'll get to meet solo travelers. And once you're in the city,

...

you feel a little bit more comfortable. You're able to make friends. You explore the city,

...

where it was kind of Dawn Team was going from one city to another

...

Oh my gosh. I would get into the taxis

...

I was actually really afraid of being that young

...

a naive American girl who super young doesn't look like she knows

...

anything

...

And I had actually minute a bunch of

...

other solo travelers from Asia. And in fact ...this is not

...

a pretty common thing in Asia.

...

in the Asian culture just so travel. So I

...

I had thought, like, maybe if I just came across, like, I was in

...

experience traveler and had been to South America multiple times.

...

So whenever the taxi drivers, you know, daylight like to make small,

...

small talk conversations ask where you're from if it's your first

...

times. I would always say, like, oh, I'm from

...

Taiwan, and this is, you know, I've been here, like,

...

two or three times.

...

and

...

It just kinda gave me that sense. So to security hoodie,

...

That's that's really ...I mean, that is so

...

smart. I ...you know, I it it is that sort of fake till you make it mentality, but

...

it's it's wonderful to hear that you kind of it

...

experienced there. Right? Because I think a lot of times, we get

...

scared of what we don't know and

...

and sometimes you can even get, you know, that that shows itself in all of different

...

Mhmm.

...

has the emotions, whether it's fear or anger or

...

all of that, But I I love that so much. So

...

you know, the whole idea of this solo travel experience and

...

empowerment and confidence that you just kind of shared with me.

...

Can you tell us more about san collection?

...

which just launched a few days ago, again, congratulations. And

...

how you are inspired to start it, What was your biggest challenge there?

...

Yeah. Thank you, Megan. So wanna

...

collection is a resort Reverend brand for a woman who travel.

...

our collections are inspired by the different destinations around the world.

...

you know, I had always knew I wanted to be in fashion. You know, just

...

ever since i was a little kid fashion was just like my way of expressing myself and

...

what gave me the confidence because

...

I used to be such a shy girl. Like, I could even talk.

...

like, talk to people. So fashion was just my

...

way of expressing myself. And

...

you know, once I once I got older, you know, that was still in the

...

fun of my mind that I wanted to do. And I often knew I love

...

I love solo traveling I love the feelings that I get. Like, just talking about it, makes me feel so

...

passionate it and

...

Know, Every time I'm exploring somewhere do, like,

...

I feel like I'm truly living, like, you know, you

...

just really

...

put yourself in that present moment. You're not thinking about the future or you're not

...

you know, constantly, you know, thinking about what's next and trying to get there. Your

...

you're just living your job observing your, like, making friendships and talking to people

...

god that feeling is just ...it was such an amazing feeling, and I

...

saw that there weren't enough woman

...

that one the solo travel, you know, because of maybe the fears or

...

maybe the lack of confidence, so I really wanted to kind of blend the two

...

together.

...

So that was really ...that was the essence behind the brand.

...

I love it. And

...

and tell us a little bit about the brand because I was reading on the website

...

and, you know, through the posts that it is sustainable. It's made with recycled

...

fabric, and you use small batch making manufacturing.

...

tell us a little bit about that.

...

Yeah. So yeah. All ...so we kinda

...

have a hybrid model.

...

So all this swimsuit is manufactured and Bali.

...

we use regenerate nylon to make all this one.

...

And Bali is great because they work with a lot of start brands.

...

myself will kinda have this stream of creating a brand and

...

I've always wanted to travel to Bali. So I thought it I thought it was a nice

...

a great place to manufacture all my swimsuit students.

...

and I I really hope that I could travel the ball you one day and just

...

seeing where the market is,

...

trying to be a little bit more conscious.

...

and

...

how we produce garments. That's really where the future is holds. So

...

I wanted to be mindful of that and

...

you know,

...

create

...

conscious ways of producing clothing. That is the

...

sustainable. And

...

So all the skirts too. So

...

the a brand is one suits and skirts and

...

I found myself whenever I'm traveling, you know,

...

going, I always saw myself like going to, like, really were places where it's like, really

...

humid and, you know, that can ...that can look like going the beach or to the pool.

...

And then, you know, maybe later, you know, you're outside on the beach

...

you know,

...

going to a concert maybe there's music or you're dining outside. So

...

that was why

...

I decided have switches in skirts.

...

and the skirts, that was ...those were all handmade locally.

...

And

...

I wanted to find a way to be sustainable.

...

just in a different approach because they weren't manufactured at a fact

...

So I picked all of the fabric myself.

...

And I also employed a just local scene

...

to make the discouraged and

...

wanted to use

...

small small back to manufacturing and getting them handmade vocal

...

just to be really conscious in not producing so much waste.

...

I love that so much because that is so

...

true. I mean, you know, I've been hearing in the news and reading an article that fashion is

...

one of those industries that is kind of the guilty of, you know, creating ways

...

Mhmm.

...

and and using a resources. So I love the fact that you started from the ground.

...

here already sustainable, already employing local local artisans,

...

using, you know, materials from all these places. So Kudos

...

you. I just thought that was such a cool

...

angle of this brand. So

...

both in solo travel

...

and launching a business. It's easy to think about

...

doing it.

...

And then it is another thing entirely to actually do it. I think, you know,

...

Do you have any tips from how to get to that brain space of just thinking about it?

...

to that sending, you know, seemingly

...

hard to get to place of actually doing it.

...

that that's such a great. Question and honestly,

...

I think even being an entrepreneur that's

...

if it's something that you don't really achieve, Like, I'm

...

still always trying to navigate that space.

...

But so just to give you some background too, like, it wasn't like

...

overnight thing where I had the dream and then I went out and implemented it.

...

Actually spend four years.

...

just, you know, at my job and construction

...

always wanting to be in fashion, always wanting to

...

create something, but not not only having that confidence to do that.

...

and I actually have the pin pandemic the think for that because

...

when twenty twenty one came in the beginning of the year,

...

you know, we're all thinking about kind of new year's resolutions and

...

I just really wanted to do something new from

...

do something new and really do something for myself.

...

Hadn't always been talking about the treating that Led would be in fashion and

...

Haven't don't really done anything. So I was starting to feel like I'm just that girl.

...

who, you know, it just talks the talk but

...

doesn't really believe in herself or doesn't really have the confidence to do it. And

...

actually, it's so funny how we can just be inspired by the people around them.

...

like, we actually have all the resources we need just by

...

know. Maybe talking a family talking to friends,

...

getting in touch with some of the people we might have lost touch with.

...

So that's exactly what I did. I had a few small business

...

owner friends,

...

know that

...

I had a ...I kind of washed touch with. So I reached out to the

...

you know, just this

...

just to ask them about their journey, how they got started,

...

and it's really making connections with the people like that that

...

are really just in our own community

...

our own circle where we can feel inspired to make that

...

make that start.

...

I couldn't agree more and, you know,

...

it's so fascinating that you bring that up because it's sometimes as

...

it's kind of that mindset shift where I think sometimes when

...

think that they are gonna do something new or, you know,

...

again, it's kind of going back to that

...

Mhmm. Yeah.

...

vision of what it looks like in the movies that you were talking about so travel.

...

and it's like, oh, you gotta go and have this

...

think tank and and hire all these new people and everything. But, really, if you just

...

around You have so many resources

...

Mhmm.

...

probably that, you know already, and it's all about making those connections and looking at who you know

...

I love that piece of advice. That's that's wonderful.

...

Yeah. It's it's just funny because we're

...

we're constantly trying to think of how we can be

...

inspired and finding that confidence to, like, you know,

...

going boldly towards the world is, you know what I like to say and we take

...

hide in the brand, but

...

you really can find inspiration just from the people around you and

...

just looking around talking to people. I mean, it could be like your best

...

friend, you know, have this story or, you know, someone used to go to school with

...

and just keeping those connections also too,

...

is just what I'm really trying to cultivate through the brand as well.

...

To love that so much. Well, everybody thank you so much for joining us

...

we'll be opening it up for questions for the last five minutes. So if you have any

...

about starting a business. Solo travel

...

anything at all, please definitely feel free to use the chat or hop up here on

...

stage at the last five minutes. So Megan,

...

so for those of us out there who are interested in solo travel,

...

really quickly. Do you just ...do you have any tips? Do you feel like there was anything that you wish your

...

feature yourself would have told you about fellow travel.

...

You know, I would say

...

joining Facebook groups. There's so many Facebook groups these days that

...

really encourage and inspire confidence for

...

woman who want to get started, like, girls like travel, there's

...

another group called, like, solo female travel network, and

...

you can go on their post, say you're going to another country meet up. I think

...

that's just a great way of making connections. I didn't know that when I had first started

...

traveling self. It was just so daunting and

...

had do I know there is already a community out there? I think that would have

...

given me a little bit of a comfort.

...

you know, just going reading blonde, Like that's what I did right before I had

...

traveled and

...

my gosh. There's so many, like, hidden gems and undiscovered places that

...

are are just out there that you may not realize.

...

And what I like to do is, like,

...

Not to, like, over plan when you're going solo, traveling, like,

...

you can do a little bit of research. Like maybe what you wanna see, but

...

let's just open yourself up to all the opportunities and the places.

...

once you just get there, I think is just such a remarkable thing.

...

I love that. And actually, that was something that

...

best of adventures by the book headset in our last episode.

...

was basically some of the most magical things

...

yeah.

...

happen because they're unplanned. So, you know, for those of us

...

to to plan everything to that. It's hard and stomach, but we know that that is

...

too. So thank you for reminding us. So everybody if ...if anybody has any questions, please

...

feel free to request to come up on stage. In the meantime, while we wait

...

for people to come up on stage. I'm am going to do this section called

...

free travel takes, which is just short little quick, maybe one word or one sentence

...

Okay.

...

answers. Megan, I'm gonna put you a little bit on the spot, but they're all really fun.

...

So the first one, where was the first place you traveled outside of your quote unquote?

...

no.

...

probably Cart, Columbia.

...

That's a pretty good one. I think

...

I we flew through there and anna a layover, we didn't get to actually go

...

anywhere I'm kinda sad about that, but that's that's a good one for sure.

...

where have you traveled that was different from what you expected?

...

You know, I would probably have to say

...

Miami, Florida.

...

I actually just went there recently sydney and I

...

had an amazing time, but not in the way that I expected.

...

Do you you have, like, more insight? What what is your

...

bags.

...

I think Miami is just

...

it there's like this perception that people go there to, like, party and have a great time, which

...

people definitely do. But

...

honestly has just so much culture there and

...

like, beautiful art and,, like, beautiful gardens and like, just so hidden in Gems

...

I actually got the inspiration to ...go to Los Angeles what I was in miami So

...

Oh, that's awesome.

...

Yeah.

...

look good for you. I can see a little bit of similarity there. I do. I love miami

...

been there a couple of times. And actually, it's funny

...

say, you know, reading blogs and then hidden gems because that is something that color curiosity

...

see because this style We have some travel guides up on color curiosity

...

come and I'm actually working on Miami because I love it so much. So

...

That's awesome. I love it too.

...

Oh, I'm so excited I can't wait until you. Pop

...

that? Yeah.

...

Yes.

...

So this this is the lesson. So what is the best thing you've brought back from a trip?

...

whether it was an idea, an actual physical odd or souvenir,

...

a relationship, or recipe,

...

anything?

...

Probably the friendship

...

like the friendships, are just so meaningful

...

I always find myself making friends with just

...

people with such unique stories.

...

that I probably wouldn't have otherwise be putting myself out there to make those friendships.

...

just staying in my comfort zone. So I definitely think that's

...

Ai.

...

of the other invaluable experiences is the i've gained from solo traveling.

...

Yes.

...

I love it. Comfort zone comfort known. I cited

...

calling at the comfort known because I think it's all about getting outside what you know and just like,

...

Mhmm.

...

realizing that things that are different from what you know

...

are actually maybe not as bad or scary or big deal. So

...

I love this.

...

Mhmm. I love that.

...

Yeah. Well, welcome to know. Thank you so much for

...

coming up on stage. We would love to, you know what your question is for Megan.

...

Hi, Megan. Thank you for helping me up here and hi, Megan.

...

Name squared.

...

yeah.

...

but, yeah. Exactly. Both

...

megan. I love it. Make it really easy.

...

No. So ...I mean, Megan that I love that you've done so will traveling act on the bit myself.

...

and they just love experiences that you've been talking about. It sounds

...

so fun when you talk about how you travel. Also, love your brand. I am obsessed.

...

i'm have like, on your site.

...

Oh, thank you.

...

And I just was kinda curious what's like, the best ...like, what's a favorite member you have?

...

of while you were solo traveling that you like not would have been experienced to if you had been with

...

you

...

that's a great question. I mean,

...

So one of the ...i I'm just gonna

...

tell little personal anecdotes. So when I had first or arrived to cart the hang,

...

Colombia, and that was my first time ever at A hospital my first time.

...

Every traveling, actually made a friend, approve friend

...

in the hospital. And we, you know, it's some group activity.

...

together, and I had mentioned I was going down to Lima and

...

funny enough key does Race driving just at the hobby

...

So and I get to lima, you know,

...

we like, toward the city together, and I went in a race card for the first

...

time and just something, like, super out there, honestly, like

...

that that opportunity never would have happened. I don't know any way car drivers.

...

just, you know, going about my everyday life, but those are just kinda of some of the experiences

...

you get

...

when solo traveling and just putting yourself out there.

...

just being able to track just such memorable opportunities that you wanna get otherwise.

...

Oh my gosh. What kind of

...

car was it? Was it like a a formula f one or what

...

Oh my god. I don't know as see if this is what I

...

talking about, I don't know anything about race cars, but

...

it was so thrilling too., like, if somebody had asked me just in my everyday, like, hey, you wanna go make

...

like, no. I'm terrified, Like,

...

this is so funny, you know, when you're just

...

when you just put yourself out there and you're ...you're just so open to all these experiences. You're

...

it's almost like that, yes. Like, oh, yeah. Sure. Like,

...

why not? You know, I have nothing else to do and my agenda. So

...

Oh my gosh. I this guy

...

bumps because I realized ...so I actually have done improv at second City, and she

...

Mhmm.

...

chicago. I did improv training for, like, nine months.

...

And one of the principles of improv is, yes, and

...

and it's kind of like you're saying that this brain face of travel makes you more

...

to say, yes. A. Like, let's do it. Like,

...

Yeah. No. I love that. That's totally like the mindset I get when I'm

...

traveling. It's kinda like what I was sharing in the blonde too, like, you know,

...

I ...when you're just put yourself out there,

...

you

...

you like few things that you probably wouldn't have really done

...

just being in your comfort noun.

...

Yes.

...

So it's just ...it's just so funny how I performers is

...

you really

...

you really could be that you might not have known otherwise. So

...

I love that so much. And everybody speaking of if you go to color career,

...

dot com, you'll actually see. So I will be trying

...
